A Message from CEO Tony Geoghegan
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I never forget that we can only help Ireland’s homeless and hungry, and those struggling with addiction and mental health issues, by the grace of your generosity. This is one of the many reasons that all at Merchants Quay Ireland are committed to the highest levels of good governance. I also never forget that many of you graciously give to more than one charity, so I want to help you understand what to look out for.
You should make sure any of the charities you support – including MQI - do these four things:
- Is compliant with, or actively adopting, Ireland’s Code of Good Governance for charities
- Have annual reports independently audited and certified
- Make financial information available online, 24/7 (or at a bare minimum available to you via post upon request)
- Have a current registered charity number with the Charities Regulatory Authority
Merchants Quay Ireland does all of the above and you should never be afraid to call and ask questions of any charity. Any organisation to which you give should welcome your queries with open arms.
At Merchants Quay, we do. You can ring Séamus or Patrick on 01 524 0139 any time. They are happy to help you with any questions you might have - or to put you in touch directly with myself if you prefer.
On this governance page you will find full details on our current (and all-volunteer) Board of Directors, Executive Team, MQI salary bands, Good Governance Code, Guiding Principles for Fundraising and financial accountability. We update this page each autumn at the very least, when our annual report is published, providing a snapshot of how your donations work. Our registered charity number is 20026240 and our CHY (Revenue) number is CHY 10311.
Thank you, today and always, for the faith you place in us.
CEO Merchants Quay Ireland
